PURE EUCALYPTUS (Blue Mallee) ESSENTIAL OIL
Both the crushed leaves and essential oil of eucalyptus have long been used by Australian Aboriginal tribes to treat fungal conditions, burns, insect bites, wounds, infection (especially respiratory), muscular pain, congestion, and feverish tropical diseases such as malaria, cholera, and typhoid. For centuries, people burned the leaves as fumigation to relieve fever and repel disease-carrying insects.
The essential oil is one of nature’s most powerful antibiotics, destroying not only a wide range of bacteria but also fungi and viruses. I tend to prefer E. radiata, but all three can be used to relieve and/or fend off colds, flu, and respiratory and throat infections. Eucalyptus is an amazing decongestant and mucolytic, meaning it helps thin mucus, which is why it is added to many commercial vapor rubs. It is also often used to treat herpes and chickenpox, and it is most beneficial in healing wounds and sores and eradicating athlete’s foot, nail fungus, ringworm, lice, and scabies.
Eucalyptus essential oil is initially cool upon inhalation but actually warming upon the skin, making it quite effective in liniments used to ease the pain of achy or stiff muscles, stressed tendons and ligaments, sciatica, and arthritic joints. Like clove, it gets sluggish circulation moving.
